Course description
Soil management in the agro-ecosystems is indispensable to sustainable crop production, and it must be based on the appropriate control of nutrient dynamics and fertilizer application. Student will learn the various soil function related to soil classification, examples of the nutrient cycles of soil, and fertilizer science.
Expected Learning
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to
1. Explain the material cyclical of soil in the field based on the soil functions,
2. Explain the resources, materials, techniques, and the social system of fertilizers.

Unit 1 (Sugihara): Guidance, Soil charter
Unit 2 (Yokoyama): Plant nutrients and fertilizers on food, population, resources, and environmental problems
Unit 3 (Yokoyama): Definition and classification of fertilizers
Unit 4 (Yokoyama): Characteristic of inorganic and organic fertilizers and composts
Unit 5 (Sugihara): Soil function and characteristics 1
Unit 6 (Sugihara): Soil function and characteristics 2
Unit 7 (Sugihara): Soil function and characteristics 3
Unit 8 (Sugihara): Carbon cycle in the agro-ecosystems
