Course description
The lecture is held to understand fundamental organic synthesis of biological materials such as plant and insect hormones.
Expected Learning
To understand the basic idea about the design of the organic compound synthesis
To have a basic knowledge of the carbon-carbon bond formation, functional group transformation reactions
To suggest a possible synthesis method on how to synthesize organic compounds
To understand the basics for stereoselective synthesis reaction
To have a basic understanding of the separation and purification process of organic compounds,
Course schedule
The significance of organic synthesis
Methods of organic synthesis, key points on the experimental procedure, the carbon skeleton formation of the design, use of functional group transformation method, such as the role of the protective group
It will be given with examples.

Chemical synthesis of the plant hormone
We will discuss on the plant hormone, and the methods of chemical synthesis that have been achieved so far,.

Chemical synthesis of insect pheromones
Based on the insect pheromones, we will discuss the methods of chemical synthesis and the applications. In particular, we will discuss the elucidation of absolute configuration and stereoselective chemical synthesis in detail.

Chemical synthesis of insect hormone
Based on the insect hormones, chemical synthesis methods and the application will be introduced.

Chemical synthesis using microorganisms
We will discuss the synthesis of biologically active substances using, for example, yeast reduction method, utilizing the enzyme reaction, and chemical synthesis of peptide biomolecules.
We will discuss efficient chemical synthesis of peptide-related substance.

Chemical synthesis of agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals
For searching the synthesis of new pesticides and pharmaceuticals, it will be explained the process leading to the methods.
