Course description |
This course provides students with basic principles of genetics including the concepts of heredity and genes that are essential for the image of life. The Mendelian rules are the basis for all biological phenomena related to genetics. The course further provides the basic idea for molecular genetics and biological homeostasis, plasticity and evolution. |
Expected Learning |
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to: (1) Recognize the basic principles of genetics and the structure/function of nucleic acids. (2) Recognize the quantitative aspects of genetics and statistics based on the population genetics. (3) Describe the basic techniques in molecular genetics and modern approaches for the genetics of plants, insects , animals and human. |
Course schedule |
The order of lectures 1. Introduction to genetics - from historical view to molecular genetics 2. Mendelian rules and various types of heredity 3. Meiosis and gamete formation 4. Chromosomes and genetic maps 5. Evolution of the population 6. Biochemistry for genetics 7. Central dogma 8. Structure and function of genes 9. Insect genetics 10.
