Course description
This course aims to develop students’ writing skills so that they can write clear and cohesive texts which convey their ideas in English. Students will focus on essay writing on a variety of topics.
Expected Learning
Objectives:
・ Students should learn how to write a variety of essays, such as expository, argumentative, descriptive, and compare and contrast.
・ Students should learn how to write effective introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions.
・ Students should learn to organize and express their ideas clearly and logically.
・ Students should learn to support their ideas with outside sources, such as books, magazines and Internet articles. Students should learn how to quote/paraphrase/summarize in order to avoid plagiarism.
・ Students should submit 3-5 writing assignments in the course of the semester.
Course schedule
Students will gain a practical understanding of basic academic writing skills. They will also analyze a variety of model essays and submit three pieces of written work. Below is a prospective outline of the course.
