This subject deals with ecosystem ecology for environmental and natural resource science, especially ecosystem functions and mechanisms. We will lecture from the fundamental aspects of ecosystem to material cycle, biodiversity and conservation of global environment. |
Expected Learning |
To understand the overview of global ecosystem and their functions, and anthropogenic disturbance of ecosystems. |
Course schedule |
1・A concept of global system and ecosystem 2・Physical geography and biological geography (climate system and water cycle) 3・Evolution and extinction with environment changes 4・Excursion in Fuchu campus 5・History of terrestrial ecosystems from birth to succession, and geographical distribution of vegetation. 6・Carbon cycle in terrestrial ecosystem (mainly forest) 7・Nitrogen cycle in terrestrial ecosystem (mainly forest) 8・Phosphorus cycle 9・Plant defense against herbivore 10・Forest decline and their causes 11・Forest landscape and ecosystem service 12・Food web and energy balance 13・Biodiversity 14・Changes of global system (anthropogenic disturbance) 15・Conservation of global ecosystem |

Message from instructor(s) |
The stimulation of human activity after the Industrial revolution seriously affect our life through various changes in ecosystems. Although ecosystem is very complex system, many interesting and important knowledge have been obtained as a result of great efforts by forerunners. We hope you will deeply consider “our” ecosystems and learn the basis for the conservation of them through our lecture. Two staffs will lecture in this subject. Please contact us by E-mail in each. |
