Course description
The course introduces you to basic German reading and communication. Making use of basic grammar you will read easy essays or stories with the aid of a dictionary. After passing the final exam you are entitled to obtain a credit.
Native speakers of German are not permitted to register for this course.
Expected Learning
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. read sentences aloud by right pronunciation
2. read easy sentences with the aid of a dictionary
3. recite three principle parts of basic verbs
4. develop basic reading comprehension
5. ask easy questions and give easy answers
6. have some information about German history and culture

The roll will be called every week. You must not absent yourself more than 4 times.
The final grade will be assessed by the following criteria:
(i) Attendance and class participation ― 30%
(ii) Result of the final examination ― 70%
