Course description |
[This class will be discussed in Japanese.]The purpose of this lecture is to consider the Environmental history in the case of Japanese traditional society. This lecture will approach that purpose by paying particular attention to the historical landscapes, the lifestyle cultures, the livelihood cultures and so on, which were formed between the people and nature. The era focused on in this lecture is the period from early modern to modern times (from 17th to the early 20th) in Japan. In addition, the historical changes in the urban landscape in Japan will be also focused on in this lecture. |
Expected Learning |
To obtain the knowledge about the characteristics of the traditional civilization that existed in Japan before industrialized civilization appeared, and the disappearing process of the traditional civilization from a view point of environmental cultural history. |

Assessment/Grading |
The grade will be calculated by a report (approximately 80%) and “the opinion cards” (approximately 20%). “the opinion card” is a card which the students should submit answering the lecturer’s questions in every class. The lecturer will select interesting cards among them and introduce them in the next class. If student’s “opinion card” is adopted, the submitters can receive added points. |
