Course description |
The lecture provides basic information on early development of domestic animals and poultries including experimental animals from a view of comparative embryology. |
Expected Learning |
Students should learn gametogenesis including meiosis, fertilization of eggs, cleavage of fertilized eggs and the following steps of development to form morula, blastula or blastocyst, gastrula, and neurula. |
Course schedule |
The course includes the following 7 classes and a final test: 1) Guidance for learning developmental biology 2) Principle of gametogenesis and meiosis 3) Fertilization and cleavage 4) Formations of morula, blastula and/or blastocyst 5) Implantation of fertilized eggs and development of gastrula 6) Development of mesoderm 7) Early development of central nervous system 8) Final test |

Message from instructor(s) |
Development is a highly integrated dynamic process to form our body with tens of trillions of cells from a single cell, a fertilized egg. Students are encouraged to learn the dynamic process of development with interest. |
Course keywords |
phylogeny, cleavage, compaction, inner cell mass, bilaminar embryonic disc, gastrula, mesoderm and neurula |
Office hours |
Friday, 10:30 〜 12:00 |
Remarks 1 |
Students are encouraged to take their own notes for better understanding of how each organ (or developmental stage-specific structure) develops, even if a handout will be distributed. |
Remarks 2 |
Students will be required to draw a picture of some developing organs and/or stage-specific structures for examining whether they have acquired the correct knowledge at a final test. |
