Course description
The course contains widely from ray performances to high voltage devices including two ranges of science and technology and mainly explains performance and technique resulting from high voltage phenomena.
Expected Learning
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to understand essence of the method of considering high voltage phenomena and technique.
Course schedule
Week 1 Introduction to high voltage engineering.
Objectives: content, teaching method
Week 2 Calculation of electric field.
Objectives: understand the calculation of static electric field and the analysis method based on Gaussian principles.
Week 3 Thunder phenomenon
Objectives: understand parameters about thunder and skills of observing thunder.
Week 4 Gas discharge theory.
Objectives: understand explanation about mechanism to occur of spark.
Week 5 Liquid discharge characteristics.
Week 6 Solids discharge characteristics.
Week 7 Discharge characteristics of composite dielectrics.
Week 8 High-voltage devices.
Objectives: understand high voltage technique used in the UHV and high voltage devices.
Week 9 Surge and lightning arrester.
Objectives: understand the property of lightning arrester, the overvoltage character and strategies of resistance to thunder.
Week 10 High voltage generating method (1).
Week 11 High voltage generating method (2).
Week 12 High-voltage measurement method.
Objectives: master skills about specific methods of measuring high voltage and guidelines in measuring.
Week 13 High voltage insolation testing method.
Week 14 General review.
Objectives: review high voltage engineering.
Week 15 Summarization.
Objectives: prepare for the exam.
Prerequisites
Students entering this class are assumed to have the fundamental knowledge about electromagnetism and circuit theory.
