Course description
The lecture introduces state of art in biotechnology to develop an understanding about the related field.
This special lecture is presented by AIST and RIKEN researches involved in partner graduate school.
About a biotechnology research developed in the field of life science of AIST, explain about necessary basic knowledge to accomplish study, comment on technique used in leading-edge of study, and lecture with the future perspective from its background.
Expected Learning
Be able to prepare agenda as a student who will be involved with life science, biotechnology research in future.

Week2-3:Genome Engineering 1-2, the latest technologies, such as comparative genomics and other genome analysis using Next Generation Sequencing platform which is deployed in Okinawa, are outlined from the theory to applications. These lectures are based on Aspergillus oryzae and its related species which are often used in traditional fermentation industry of Japan.
Week4-5:Measurement Techniques 1-2, these lectures are focusd on prnciples and applications of various microscopies to measure functions of single molecules and single cells
Week6-7:Zinc Finger Nuclease 1-2, we introduce Zinc-Finger Nuclease (ZFN), which is an advanced technologyfor targeted manipulation of the cellular genome.
Week8-9:Motor Protein 1-2, this section will introduce the function of motor proteins and its application, especially focusing on myosin-actin system.
Week10-11:Biosensing Technology 1-2, These lectures are focused on applications of nanomaterials and nanofabrications for target detections in single cell level.
Week12-15:The lectures will be focused on nanobiotechnology. Development of biosensor or regearative medicine using nanoneedle will be introduced, aiming to make deep undestandings of the trends in biotechnology. The subject of report will be presented in the lecture week12.
