Course description
This course aims to learn basic photochemistry and photobiology.
Expected Learning
Through this course, students will have deeper understanding of chemical and biological phenomena triggered by light absorption.
Course schedule
This course will be proceeded in the same order of contents of the textbook.
As to the chapter of photosynthesis, vision, bioluminescence, photochemistry of nucleic acids and photochemistry in environment, students will learn more details than the content of the textbook.

1. What is photochemistry and photobiology?
2. Let us compare photochemical reactions with thermal reactions.
3. Electronic Excited States
4. Characteristic Feature of Photochemical Reactions
5. Photo-induced Electron Transfer
6. Sensitization
7. Excitation of Functional Groups and Type of Photochemical Reactions
8. Photochemistry of Nucleic Acids
9. Photosynthesis
10. Vision
11. Bioluminescence
12. Photochemical Formation and Transformation of Anthropogenic Compounds in the Atmosphere and Aquatic Environment
