Course description |
Advanced materials science will be taught in this subject for master's course graduate students. Knowledge concerning advanced materials science and engineering will be highly required in research projects to analyze and develop intensively engineered materials for more challenging applications. Fundamental and in-depth understanding of materials behavior and performance is necessary in innovative researches for developing novel materials with transcendental features. This course aims to motivate and provide advanced and useful knowledge to develop and facilitate the insight of the master course students. |
Expected Learning |
1) capability of explaining the principles of materials selection for structural materials that are used under specific service conditions 2) capability of explaining possible deformation mechanisms and their activity in metallic materials under specific stress conditions 3) capability of characterizing the microstructures in materials by applying various analyzing methods and instruments 4) capability of evaluating elastic strain/stress field around dislocations and interactive forces between dislocations 5) capability of evaluating the force and motion on dislocations that are placed under an externally applied stress 6) capability of analyzing the mechanisms of strengthening methods that emploay variaous kind of lattice defects (solid solution atoms, pricipitated particles, dispersoids, grain boundaries, dislocation structures) 7) capability of explaining the atomic processes that are utilized in heat treatments like annealing, spheroidizing, normalizing, quenching, and tempering 8) capablity of explaining the active mechanisms of shape memory effect and superelasticity with references to thermoelastic martensitic transformation 9) capability of explaining characteristic properties of intermetallic compounds and their possible applications to light-weight heat-resistant structural materials |
