Course description |
The management of Industrial Standardization is one of the important issues of MOT, Management of Technologies. This course covers improving the recognition of the importance of the standardization and its strategies, in addition to its role in the innovation. Thus it will enable engineers to use the standards as business tools. And the course offers discussion opportunities for improvement of understanding. |

1. Guide for the “Management of Industrial Standardization.” The summary of the course 2. Importance of international standardization The globalization the economy and the background to the increasing importance of international standardization and its activities 3. The issues on the international standardization in industries and the economical rationality of standardization The methodology for strengthening the competitiveness of industries by the standardization The strategies in the European countries and USA 4. Global competitiveness and the future vision of standardization (1) Global competitiveness and the ideal role of the public and the private sectors in the future vision * Group discussion 5. The standardization for the innovation and the future vision of standardization (2) The standardization as a part of the innovation model and the ideal role of the public and the private sectors in the future vision * Group discussion and Presentation * Midterm Exam (shall be substituted by Midterm Report, Submission Deadline; 12th Jun) 6. Case Study(1) Screw International Standardization of the Screw, its strategies and issues 7. Case Study(2) Construction Machinery International Standardization of the Construction Machinery, its strategies and issues 8. Case Study(3) Spring International Standardization of the Spring, its strategies and issues 9. Case Study(4) Railway (Part 1) International Standardization of the Railway, its strategies and issues 10. Case Study(5) Railway (Part 2) International Standardization of the Railway, its strategies and issues 11. Case Study(6) Energy Management International Standardization of the Energy Management, its strategies and issues. 12. Case Study(7) EV and FCV (Part 1) International Standardization of the EV, its strategies and issues 13. The lecture has had the experience of working in three sectors, a private company, Government (METI; Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), and research in some universities, such as MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
