Course description
This course provides graduate students with training of listening skills especially of academic lectures.
Expected Learning
Students are expected to get accustomed to listening to lectures of 15 to 30 min and understand the contents.
Course schedule
Examples of topics:
1. The process of lecture comprehension
2. Comparing the language of lecturing to the language of writing
3. Recognizing cues, paraphrase, repetition, exemplification, etc.
4. Key differences between the language of lecturing and the language of writing
5. Getting the main ideas using content and perdiction
6. Predicting content and lecture direction
7. Using note-taking symbols and abbreviations
8. Differentiating between Numbers that sound similar, noting years and large numbers, fractions and decimals
