Course description |
This 2-credit course provides students with what kind of nutrients are essential for plant growth, how plants absorb these nutrients from the environments and how plants assimilate these nutrients into their components which have various physiological functions. |
Expected Learning |
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to understand the mechanisms of nutrient absorption of plants, the physiological functions of nutrients in plants, the roles of soil microbacteria in nutrient transport to plants and mechanisms of response of plants to salt stress. |

(1)History of plant nutrition, (2)Mechanisms of nutrient transport in plants, (3) Transport through xylem and phloem, (4)Functions of macronutrients (N, S, P, K, Mg, K), (5)Functions of micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Mn, B, Cu, Ni, Mo and Cl), (6)Functions of beneficial element (Si, Al, Na, Se, Co), (7) Fertilizers |
Prerequisites |
Students entering this class are assumed to have had learned basic biology and chemistry. |

Assessment/Grading |
More than 70% of attendance is required. Prof. Ohtsu and Prof. Yokoyama will assign you exams at the last day of this course. Prof. Umezawa will assign you a report. |
