Course description |
This lecture outlines "chemical ecology". Chemical ecology is the research field studying chemical interactions among organisms. In this class, representative phenomena in this field and those involving phytohormones in biological interactions will be introduced. |
Expected Learning |
The attendants should learn how to see biological interactions from a chemical point of view, and how to pursue studies in the field. |
Course schedule |
1st part: representative studies in the filed of chemical ecology 1. ingestive and oviposition behavior of butterflies 2. coevolution and chemical substances 3. pathogen resistance of plants: phytoalexin 4. antibiotics 5. allelopathy 6. pheromone 2nd part: phytohormones and chemical ecology 1. host recognition by root parasitic plants 2. gall induction by insects |
