Course description |
The course lectures on basic general chemistry including stoichiometry, atomic atructure, electronic structure, periodic table, chemical bonds, chemical thermodynamics from the perspective of physical chemistry and quantum chemistry. |
Expected Learning |
You will learn basic chemistry of atom and molecule. Learners have to break away from memorized knowledge aimed at passing examination so far, and will be able to systematically and theoretically understand chemical essential including geometrical structure, electronic state and reactivity of materials. |
Course schedule |
Three term end examinations are planning in the second half of the final lecture by each teacher. 1st 〜5th lecture (Prof. Kawaide, Hiroshi) 1) Introduction to general chemistry 2) Stoichiometry and calculation 3) Periodic table and atomic structure 4) Electronic structure and periodic table 1 -Beginning of quantum chemistry, electronic configuration- 5) Electronic structure and periodic table 2 -Structure and property of atom- 1st Examination 6〜10th lecture (Prof. Hattori, Makoto) 6) Chemical bond 1 - Ionic bond and covalent bond, Lewis structure and bond order- 7) Chemical bond 2 -Resonance, coordinate bond, molecular structure, bond theory- 8) Covalent bond and molecular structure - Hybrid orbital, double nad triple bonds, molecular orbital theory- 9) Acids and Bases -Acid and base in aqueous solution and Lewis acid/base- 10) Oxidation and reduction -Oxidation number, oxidant, reductant- 2nd examination 11〜15th lecture (Assoc. Prof. Kasuya, Natsuki) 11) Gaseous chemistry 1 -Boyle's law, Charles's law and Gay-Lussac's law- 12) Gaseous chemistry 2 -Gaseous chamical reaction, ideal and real gas, kinetic molecular theory- 13) Thermodynamics 1 -First law of thermodynamics- 14) Thermodynamics 2 -Second law of thermodynamics- 15) Thermodynamics 3 -Free energy- 3rd Examination |
