Course description
Course Outline: To build a firm foundation in English, first-year students are required to take the Integrated English course. Students will learn to use a variety of key English skills together. The main focus of the course is to enhance students’ receptive English skills such as reading and listening. Students will also learn to integrate these receptive skills with productive skills such as writing and speaking.
Expected Learning
Objectives: Students should attain level B1 in a variety of English skills as stated in the CEFR-J, a CEFR-based framework for ELT in Japan. To attain the objectives, during the course students will be expected to:

1. Read English texts (articles, stories etc.) to improve their reading fluency. Students are also encouraged to read extensively outside of class.
2. Listen to a variety of English materials to improve their listening skills. Students are also encouraged to listen extensively outside of class.
3. Write responses (summaries, reviews etc.) to English texts read during the course, using simple English.
4. Exchange ideas about English texts read during the course, expressing their own opinions, using simple English.
