To understand the necessity of hazardous chemical management throughout the product life cycle, current situation and issues on waste management system will be outlined from the viewpoint of chemical substance management. In the lecture, the following contents will be covered: the current situation of waste treatment in Japan, the system to establish a recycling-based society that Japan is aiming for, explanation of the Stockholm and Basel conventions, and recent research topics on hazardous chemicals during waste treatment and recycling processes.
