Course description
This beginner’s course focuses on pronunciations of Mandarin Chinese as well as using Mandarin to conduct simple daily conversations by building up basic vocabularies, sentence structures, and grammars. Drills from each class take same structures as the Chuken. It doesn’t only help students practice what they learn from classes, it will also enable them to become familiar with the forms and tendencies of the real Chuken test.
Expected Learning
Students will attain approximately the 4th level on the Chuken proficiency scale. To be more specific, students are expected to carry out real life communication at an elementary level involving basic level of grammars and vocabularies upon completion of this course.

Prerequisites
Ideally, students are expected to take 「中国語ステップアップ」in their freshman year, 「中級Ⅰ」and「中級Ⅱ」in sophomore year for their overall improvement in Chinese.

Assessment/Grading
Attendance will be taken in every class. Grading will be based on final exam (70%) and attendance/homework/quizzes,etc.(30%). Students who have more than 5 absences for the class will not be eligible to take the final exam and be automatically scored a D. Sleeping, talking during the class is considered as disengaged from class activities and will be disqualified from taking the final exam as well.
