Course description
This course provides students with the basic knowledge and understanding on the history, theory and practice of wildlife management in the world and Japan. Students will learn to recognize problems to be solved and how to solve through the case study on wildlife issuers
Expected Learning
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
Recognize wildlife management systems
Recognize the basic of population ecology for wildlife management

1. History of wildlife management in the world especially for Europe and the U.S.
2. History of wildlife management in Japan
3. Modern Wildlife Management. Lesson from Kaibab deer and Yellowstone elk
4. Sustainable use of wildlife resources: wild boar and sika deer
5. Basic of population dynamics of wildlife.
6. Monitoring: population estimation
7. Population fluctuation: stability by population regulation, changes and intraspecific competition
8. Life tables
9. Exercise to describe life tables
10. Sika deer management
11. Wild boar management
12. Bears management
13. Invasive alien mammals in Japan
14. Conservation on small population in the field
15. Group discussion of wildlife issue
Prerequisites
Students entering this class are assumed to have had wildlife ecology.
