Course description
Aim: The aim of this course is to understand Japanese forest policy generally and get a basic knowledge to discuss future directions for sustainable forest management in Japan.
Summary: The course provides: 1) history of the forest policy in Japan from the Meiji era to the present; 2) structure and process of formation and implementation of the forest policy in Japan; and 3) discussion on the current topics of the forest policy in Japan.
Expected Learning
You will obtain basic information and understanding to participate group discussion on forest policy in Japan.
Course schedule
Class 1: Guidance
Class 2: Characteristics of Japanese forest policy comparing with countries in Europe, North America and Oceania
Class 3-7: History of forest policy in Japan from the 19th century to the present
Class 8: Structure and process of formation and implementation of the forest policy in Japan
Class 9: The current topics of forest policy in Japan
Class10-15: Group discussion on the current topics of Japanese forest policy
