Course description |
The course is at intermediate level or above and consists of 15 hours of tuition per week. The course will focus on the development of English language listening and speaking skills. The course will focus on socialising in an informal and formal setting, expressing themselves in an academic context and within a working environment. There will be sessions on language located within the field of science and technology. The course will also provide listening and speaking skills on the theme of British culture, both academic and social. Where possible, visits to laboratories or open lectures will be arranged. An educational trip will be organised for the first Friday of the course. |
Expected Learning |
1)to improve general listening and speaking skills 2)to develop the students’ ability to express themselves comprehensibly in social situations. E.g. socialising at an international conference and within daily situations in an English speaking culture 3)to develop the students’ ability to express themselves comprehensibly in academic situations. E.g. seminar skills, tutorials etc. 4) to prepare the students for work in an English speaking environment. E.g. job interview, CV etc. 5) to review and consolidate active use of general vocabulary and academic vocabulary related to the student’s area of study 6) to develop an awareness of British culture in an academic and social context 7) to develop research and presentation skills in a British academic context 8) to review the students’ active knowledge of grammar and features of academic writing, as required. |

This course will be based on the assumption that a student has reached a B1 Intermediate level of English according to the Common European framework: (IELTS 4.5, TOEFL (IBT) 53) |

Students will receive a grade in three areas: 1)Presentation - students will be expected to research a subject which is of interest to them and give a presentation at the end of the course. Input sessions for presentations will be given. 2) Engagement ? students will be expected to participate actively and make a positive contribution to the course. 3) Progress ? a grade will be given for the student’s progress throughout the three-week cours |
