Course description |
This course provides students with Newtonian mechanics, the relationship between force and motion in the language of mathematics. The topics also include multi-particle dynamics and rigid body dynamics. The results of mechanics have a wide variety of applications in science and engineering. |
Expected Learning |
(1) Understand Newton's laws of motion and apply them to some movements of a particle. (2) Recognize the law of conservation of energy. (3) Describe multi-particle dynamics and rigid body dynamics. |
Course schedule |
Week1 Description of 1D motion Week2 Description of 2D motion Week3 Newton's laws of motion Week4 Various motions as examples of the equation of motion Week5 Newton's laws of motion as a differential equation Week6 Midterm examination Week7 Mechanical work Week8 Energy Week9 Momentum Week10 Multi-particle dynamics Week 11 Moment of force and angular momentum Week12 Rigid body dynamics Week13 Planetary motion Week14 Inertial force Week15 Term-end examination |
