Inorganic compounds and metal ions play important roles in the life. Students who successfully complete this class will be able to: 1) Recognize inorganic chemistry and coordination chemistry. 2) Understand the function of inorganic ions and metalloproteins in vivo. |

Week 1: Orientation of this class. Week 2: Structure of Atoms and the periodic table. Week 3: Properties of elements. Week 4: Structure of inorganic compounds. Week 5: s-, p-, d-, f-block elements. Week 6: Valence bond theory. Week 7: Ligand field theory. Week 8: Midterm examination. Week 9: Living body essential elements. Week 10: Metalloproteins and metalloenzyms I. Week 11: Metalloproteins and metalloenzyms II. Week 12: Ion transport for metal ions and the homeostasis. Week 13: Interaction between metal ions and nucleic acids. Week 14: Physico-chemical methods for the bioinorganic compounds. Week 15: Final examination. |
