Course description |
Biochemistry is a biological science to explain life phenomena in a molecular level. It allows us to be able to answer a basic question, e.g. what constituents builds up a living organism; how a living organism maintain its activity; and so on. Currently, it contributes to medical and industrial applications with its degree increasing. Throughout this course, a students will be equipped with not only basic contents but also applied contents beneficial as an engineer. |
Expected Learning |
-Constituents of macromolecules -Functions and structures of proteins, nucleic acids, sugars and lipids -Essence of metabolisms -Enzyme functions and kinetics |
Course schedule |
This course consists of 13 lectures and 2 exams, which will be held in Japanese. Any potential change of schedule and detailed information on this course will be notified during a lecture. Every lecture has time for quiz to enhance the degree of understanding, which will be held at the end. Students are asked to submit this quiz every time, which is also used as attendance of each lecture. #1 Guidance and introduction of biochemistry #2 Aquatic chemistry #3 Amino acids and proteins 1: their properties #4 Amino acids and proteins 2: structure, function and application #5 Nucleic acids 1: properties and structures of DNA and RNA #6 Nucleic acids 1: DNA repair and replication #7 Enzyme 1: Properties, role and reaction kinetics #8 Interim exam #9 Enzyme 2: Reaction kinetics and inhibition #10 Sugars #11 Lipids #12 Metabolisms 1: introduction and glycolytic pathway #13 Metabolisms 2: citric acid cycle and respiration chain #14 Photosynthesis #15 Final exam |
