Course description
Tribology is the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion and of the practices related thereto.
Expected Learning
Understanding simple phenomena relating friction, wear, and lubrication.
Acquiring abilities to apply the knowledge of tribology to practical issues.

2. History of tribology, Amonton-Coulomb’s law of friction
3. Surface of solids, roughness, hardness, dry friction
4. Way of reducing friction, boundary lubrication by molecules
5. Liquid lubrication, mixed lubrication, what is the Stribeck curve?
6. Sliding and rolling bearings, role of liquid lubricant
7. Friction law in the world of ants, modification of the friction law
8. What is adhesion force, solid surface is wet even though it looks dry.
9. Friction in vacuum environment, effect of water, lubrication by ambient atmosphere
