Course description
Characteristics of the plant pathogenic microorganisms, virulence factors and avirulence factors, the concept and research trends of recent related to the control method of pathogenic microorganism will be introduced. In addition, by reading and presentation of the scientific papers, improvement of the ability to debate and scientific thinking will be expected.
Expected Learning
Understanding of the characteristics of the plant pathogenic microorganisms, virulence factors and avirulence factors, the concept and research trends of recent related to the control method of pathogenic microorganism. Ability of debate, presentation and scientific thinking will improve.
Course schedule
Plant disease is the inhibition factors for stable production of safe food, which damages quantitatively and qualitatively.
Revealing the interaction between plant and pathogen, nature and pathogenesis-related factors, plants will lead development of safe and reliable control of plant diseases.

In this class, overview of plant pathogens, objectives of studying plant pathogens, how to set up research plans based on experimental results, relatively new technology that can be used in the study on plant pathogens, relationship with the evolution and mating, mechanism, advantages and disadvantages of each pathogen control technique, will be discussed based on global research trends and papers.

Half of this class is supported by Professor Takashi Kamakura from Tokyo University of Science who we will introduce the latest developments of plant pathogenic filamentous fungus research.
Prerequisites
I hope that students have knowledge of undergraduate level of plant pathology.
