Course description
To understand the causes and mechanisms of soil erosion and slope failure in mountaionus region.
To study on the methods of prediction of occurrence of slope failure, assessment of hazard zone and planning of countermeasrues.
Expected Learning
To understand the influence of rainfall on occurrence of soil erosion and slope failure.
Course schedule
1st: Outline & guidance
2nd: Basic concepts of soil erosion in mountainous area
3rd: Actual conditions & countermeasures against soil erosion on the forest floor with an impoverished understory grazed by deer
4th: Mechanics of slope failures
5th: Water infiltration and percolation into soil of slope
6th: Prediction of slope failrure caused by rainfall
7th: Slope failure phenomena and travel distance of collapsed material
8th: Case studies on disasters and countermeasures against recent slope failures
Prerequisites
It is to be desired that students have studied on erosion control in forested land & erosion control engineering.
