Course description
Various types of modifications are continually generated on DNA by exposure to ionizing radiation or by various chemical species resulting from endogenous metabolism. Those modifications are inferred to increase the frequency of mutations if they are left unrepaired, and, finally, this process may induce apoptosis or initiate onset of cancer.
The lecture outlines DNA lesions, especially those caused by irradiation and how repair enzymes recognize and repair these DNA lesions, and introduces how to study properties of those biomolecules by combining an experimental methods and a molecular simulation technique.
