Course description
In this lecture, you study on roles of soil microorganisms as plant nutrition suppliers.
I focus on 1) Rhizobium-Legume interaction, inoculation practices, 2) R/D of Biofertilizers and their use.
Expected Learning
You obtain current knowledges of roles of soil microorganisms in agricultural practices.
Course schedule
1st-2nd times: Introduction, Nitrogen cycle in agriculture, Finding nitrogen fixation, Mechanisms of nitrogen fixation.
3rd - 5th times: Taxonomy of Rhizobium, Molecular mechanisms of rhizobium-legume symbiosis, Inoculation practices.
6th - 8th times: History of finding of nitrogen fixer in rhizosphere, R/D of biofertilizer, Practical use of biofertilizer.

Special lecture 1: Dr. Ohwaki(NARO) Agricultural ecology of endophytic nitrogen fixer.
Special lecture 2: Prof. Senoo(Tokyo university) Soil microbial ecology in paddy field; especially nitrogen cycle microorganisms.

Prerequisites
Prerequisites is attendance of the two special lectures.
