Course description
This course aims to prepare students for their five-year doctoral program by guiding them through how to make plans for lab rotations, taking courses, internships, study abroad, etc. as well as some basic skills such as communications, leadership, etc.
Expected Learning
Through this course, students will be able to:
-Understand the significance of and make specific plans for lab rotation, course registration, internship, study abroad, etc.
-Improve their presentation, feedback, and discussion skills
-Understand the basics of teambuilding and leadership
-Envision diverse career options and make their original plans for research and other learning to be conducted in the five-year program
Course schedule
Class 1: Introduction to the course
Class 2: Hints on deciding lab rotations
Class 3: Self-management and study skills
Class 4: Connecting your research and "green & clean" food production
Class 5-6: Student presentations (research and personal goals)
Class 7: Feedback and discussion skills
Class 8: Research introduction by the faculty of Department of Food and Energy Systems Science, Traditional career paths of Ph.D,
Class 9: Communication skills
Class 10: Team-building and leadership
Class 11: Self-analysis
Class 12-14: Student presentations (study plans for 5 years and future career plan)
Class 15: Summary
Prerequisites
Students in the Department of Food and Energy Systems Science must take this course during their first semester (M1).
The class will be held on Mondays, 4-5th period. Detailed schedule will be distributed in the first class (April 16th, 2018).
