Course description |
The objective of this course is to develop communication skills and to learn basic Kanji for everyday life in Japan. Students are expected to learn everyday conversations and Japanese culture with a variety of multimedia materials. They are also expected to acquire basic knowledge of Kanji and to learn how to use Kanji through various class activities. |
Expected Learning |
1. To develop everyday conversational skills and Japanese cultural skills. 2. To acquire basic knowledge of Kanji and the usage of Kanji. Competency development: Basic communication skills, Basic Kanji reading and writing skills |
Course schedule |
1. General knowledge of Kanji: four categories of Kanji, basic strokes, rules of stroke order, components of Kanji, radicals 2. Writing and reading exercises of Kanji (approximately 100 Kanji) 3. Rewriting short sentences using Kanji 4. Activities focusing on Pictographic characters, sign characters, ideographic characters 5. Tasks to learn Kanji in daily life 6. Using web-based tools and electronic dictionaries for searching Kanji 7. Japanese calligraphy 8. Listening Comprehension (grammatical items and expressions used in daily situations) 9. TV news (Information about Japanese culture & events) 10. Presentation |
