Course description
Lectures and artists from an art university will give the lectures on how to face to artwork and instruct the basic techniques of artistic expression. Students can obtain the broaden knowledge of art which is essential for the global leaders and practically improve their abilities of observation, idea making, expression, and creativity.
Expected Learning
●Obtain the broaden knowledge on culture and art, and deepen the understanding of the diversity of expression and creativity of human beings.
●Practically learn the basic structure and techniques of artwork.
●Improve the abilities to observe, imagine, express, and create something new.

- The course will be consist of four intensive classes.
- All classes will be basically held in Japanese language, but the course coordinator will help foreign students to understand in English as much as possible.

■Late autumn class "Learn the basics of manufacturing: Ceramic Art"
○Lecturer: Mitsuru Nishimura (Assoc.Professor of Kyoto Univ. of Art & Design; Ceramic Artist)
○Date & Time: October 27th (Sat) p.m. and 28th (Sun) a.m., 2018
○Venue: 50 years memorial hall, HQ area in Fuchu-campus
○Outline: This class is composed of the lectures on ceramic art and exercises of pottery making which is primitive and fundamental manufacturing from clay. Students learn and
consider the relationship between nature and human activities which is a part of the theme of LGP.


■Winter-begin Class "Improve observation ability: Practical Art Appreciation"
○Lecturer: Takahiro Date(Assoc.Professor of Kyoto Univ. of Art & Design; Researcher)
○Date & Time: 10:00 - around 18:00 on November 4th (Sun), 2018
○Venue: Leading Seminar Room, 2nd floor of BASE bldg. Koganei-campus
○Outline: This class is composed of the lectures on art or exhibitions of art works and practices of Art Communication Project (ACOOP) which is a new approach of art appreciation
and evaluation. Students improve their observation ability which is similarly essential and required in research activities and understand the human creativity.


■New year's class "Develop a design sense: Information Design"
○Lecturer: Joji Sugishita (Designer; Lecturer of Musashino Art University)
○Date & Time: January 12nd (Sat) 10:00- around 18:00, 2019
○Venue: LGP Seminar Room, 2nd floor of BASE bldg., Koganei-campus
○Outline: This class is composed of the lectures on idea creation and typography and exercise of poster design. Students cultivate observation ability, train the flexible thinking, and
develop the design sense which can be also applied for the design of products, packages, environment or any other materials or aspects related to their research.


■Early spring class "Enhance the expression by words: Read a book, Write a review"
○Lecturer: Manabu Kawada (Professor of Kyoto Univ. of Art & Design; Researcher)
○Date & Time: 10:00- around 18:00 on January 19th (Sat) OR 20th (Sun), 2019
○Venue: Room 21, 2nd floor of the main bldg. of Faculty of Agriculture, Fuchu-campus
○Outline: Students read a book in Japanese in advance. In the class, they deepen the understanding of the book as an art work through the discussion and evaluation among them
under the instruction of the lecturer, and/or lean how to write a book review. Students enhance the ability to read and express the attractiveness of the book and learn an etiquette
of reading a book.

Students may get the credit by attending at least three classes when they get unavoidable reasons.
Marks will be given based on the comprehensive evaluation by lecturers seeing students' activeness in the class and quality of the work.
