Course description
Outline:
This course aims to help students to acquire the basic knowledge of scientific English reading and presentation skills required to write scientific research papers in English. Students learn reading scientific English articles in a logical way, how to organize a science paper, and word usage in scientific writing. They also learn some very specific points about science writing and how to write clearly and concisely. In addition, this course covers TED TALKS in order for students to be able to communicate their idea as well as understand authentic, effective presentations.
Expected Learning
Objectives:
By the end of the course,
(1) Students will understand the basic knowledge of scientific papers and accurately grasp important information of each section of a paper/an article with .
(2) Students will be better able to write an Abstract of a graduation thesis in clear and concise English; or they
are able to summarize articles in their own words.
(3) Students will learn how to prepare and organize science PowerPoint presentations.

Prerequisites
This course carries 2 credits. In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, they are recommended to prepare for, and review, the classes using handouts distributed by the instructor, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class. Estimated out-of-class study time per week (including assignments and tests) is 4 hours. Also students must attend at least 2/3 of the course in order to receive credit. If you are late for the class twice, it will be counted as one time of absence.
