Course description
Learn about the characteristics of cell cultures of higher animals, insects and plants (including yeast), techniques, properties of cells, their application to biology, agriculture, etc.
Expected Learning
Learn the basic knowledge on cell engineering methods using animal, insect, plant (yeast) cells.

Mammalian cells
Outline of cell culture
Cell proliferation, animal cell culture, cell regulation factor
Serum-free culture, cell fractionation and cloning
Storage of cellular resources, hybridomas
Intracellular injection, in vitro assay
Learn the basics and applications mainly on mammalian cells.

Insect cell
History and development of insect cell culture
Equipment necessary for insect cell culture, machine tools
Method of primary culture of insect cells
Continuous passaging cell lines derived from insects and their characteristics
Application of insect cell culture
Learn about the specialty of specialized insect cell culture, specific technology and field of use.

Plant (yeast) cells
Separation of callus culture protoplasts, culture and cell fusion
Introduction of foreign genes into plant cells and breeding of transgenic plants and its application
Substance production system using yeast cells
Measurement and control of cell culture condition
Measure cell concentration ・ Measure the number of viable cells
Measurement and control of DO (Dissolved Oxygen Dissolved Oxygen)
Handling of jar fermentor and control of cell proliferation
