Course description
This course provides students with the fundamental concepts and principles of biostatics. We lecture, at first, the phylogeny and taxonomy of life from the viewpoint of evolutionary history, and then, the morphology and physiology of the plants and animals, and discuss the amazing mechanisms of structure and function. We also comment on the relationship between those organisms and human life.
Expected Learning
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to explain the taxonomy, morphology, and physiology of life from the viewpoints of phylogeny and comparative biology.

Examination
----
Prerequisites
This course is class C for the students of Rn (Department of Ecoregion Scinece) and Vn (Department of Veterinary Medicine). Students entering this course are assumed to have obtained the credit for TATⅠ "Biology".

In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below.
Required Text(s) and Materials
The texts on Moodle2014 are based on Campbell&Reece "Biology", 8th and 9th English original editions, and on the Japanese translated version for the 9th edition.
References
Reference books are displayed at the TAT Recommended Books Corner in the Library. We may introduce you some references in our lectures.
Assessment/Grading
80% (12/15) or more attendance at the class and 60 or more points in the examination are needed to obtain credit.
Message from instructor(s)
With the help of Moodle2014 and Campbell&Reece Biology, please make an aggressive preparation and review of the class. We hope you, like a university student, to acquire a manner to learn by yourself.
