Course description |
Outline (Academic Reading): The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to read a wide variety of topics in scientific and technological fields in English. Students will also learn how to quickly extract information and critically read academic journals and articles on recent global issues. Furthermore, they will be given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with English expressions and vocabulary that will be useful during their undergraduate studies and as career scientists. |
Expected Learning |
Objectives (Academic Reading): (1) Students should be able to acquire knowledge in new scientific research findings, and should also be able to learn new expressions. (2) Students should develop intensive reading skills to comprehend articles written in English. (3) Students should develop critical reading skills though skimming and scanning. (4) Students should learn to read independently and develop skills to read outside of the class. |

Prerequisites |
Students should make adequate preparations before each class spending the standard amount of time as specified by the university to achieve the credit as well as 30 hours of class attendance. Students must attend at least two-thirds of all classes to get credit. If a student does not fully attend the class (i.e. is present for less than the full 90 minutes) on two occasions, it should be counted as one absence. |
