Course description
This course is designed to improve the spoken fluency and ability of students. They are given the opportunity to communicate by participating in academic discussions and debates with their classmates.
This course is offered as an advanced course in the English curriculum of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
Expected Learning
1) Students should learn about how to express and support logical opinions
2) Students should be able to know how to use advanced communication skills common in academic discussions and debates
3) Students should be able to use appropriate words and expressions to write with logical consistency.
4) Students should be able to learn how to listen actively to others.

Prerequisites
This course carries 1 credit. In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, they are recommended to prepare for, and review, the classes using the textbook and the reference books, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class. Students must attend at least 2/3 of a course in order to receive credit for that course. If students do not fully attend the class for two times, it should be counted as one time of absence.
Required Text(s) and Materials
No textbook will be required for this course, but handouts will be provided in class. Students will need to bring to every class the following materials: all handouts from previous lessons and a binder or folder to organize and easily access the handouts.

A good dictionary will be essential in the course.
