Course description
The aims of this lecture is understanding the origin and the scientific mechanisms for the several atmospheric environmental issues (photochemical oxidants, PM2.5, ozone layer depletion, climate change) based on the chemical, physical and geophysical knowledges. In addition, the fundamental chemical reaction kinetics and molecular spectroscopy will be lectured.
Expected Learning
(1)Understanding the origin and the scientific mechanism for the several atmospheric environmental issues.
(2)Understanding the fundamental chemical and physical knowledge to explain the mechanism for the atmospheric environmental issues.

Course schedule
1st- 3rd: Climate Change
Based on the physical chemistry, the principles of the budget for the solar energy, greenhouse effect, radiative forcing will be lectured.

4th-7th: Ozone Layer Depletion
Based on the photochemistry and reaction kinetics, the mechanisms of the formation and loss process of the ozone layer, ozone depletion cycle, formation of the ozone hole will be lectured.

8th: Summary 1
Interaction between the increment of the greenhouse gas and the ozone layer will be lectured.

9th-13th: Atmospheric pollution
Based on the reaction kinetics and analytical chemistry, the mechanism of the formation of the photochemical smog, oxidants, particulate matter (PM2.5) and acid rain will be lectured.

14th Transboundary air pollution and simulation
The basic of the transboundary air pollution and the model simulation to forecast the air pollution and their effects will be lectured.

15th Summary 2
The magnitude of the effects of the air pollution on the range (area, region and global) will be discussed and the interaction between the air pollution with ozone layer or climate change will be lectured.

Prerequisites
The instructor recommends to attend the class "Science of Atmospheric Environment".

Students need to preview and review for an amount of time as indicated in the student guidelines of TUAT, in addition to the attendance of lecture (15 hours).
