(Osada) A first half part of this intensive course provides students with mainly legislative structures and current experiences of waste management. Students will learn to recognize the restrictions on ongoing recycling and proper disposals of waste and to develop abilities to provide your own opinions on desired measures to solve the subjects. |

(Osada) Lecturing on following topics: (1) Legislative structure on waste disposal and recycling (the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law, Act on the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources, etc.) (2) Methods and current status on waste recycling and disposal (3) Waste incineration and land-filling (4) Energy recovering and utilization of waste (5) Elimination of hazardous waste especially of persistent organic pollutants(POPs) (6) Basic concept on “Safety and security”, “Polluter Pays Principle (PPP)” and “Social receptiveness” After learning the topics, deepening the recognition by small-group discussion on a highlighted issue out of the various subjects |

| Students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below. |

| Assessment/Grading |

(Osada) Grading is evaluated by submitting reports. Reporting is assigned after group discussion and at the last lecture. Weighting of the evaluation of the submitted reports is 40% and 60%, respectively. |

(Osada) The lecture will be given by showing various statistical data and ample actual examples to clarify the learners’ images regarding sustainable waste recycling and proper disposal which is to reduce environmental impact and is acceptable economically and socially. |
