Intellectual property has become a source of global competitiveness as it is a central issue in the US and China conflict. We need to pay attention to the research and development and business fields concerning the intellectual property of others and their own intellectual property. One is a means to smoothly advance research and development, such as transfer tool of research and development results, distribution and management of outcome of joint research and development, and to disseminate results. The second method is to distinguish themselves and others in the business field and to acquire and maintain competitiveness. The third is a means to promote the development of primary industries such as agriculture and regional promotion through branding of familiar agricultural products. There are many types of intellectual property that agriculture, forestry and fishery can utilize as there are laws such as the Seeds and Seedlings Act which are not familiar to industries and others. The main ones are patents, designs, brands, trade secrets, digital contents, new varieties, regional group trademarks, geographical indications, bio patents and so on. Let's learn about these basic knowledge and to utilize these in combination in the field of agriculture. Also, it will be a bridge to the special lecture Ⅲ ｉｎ Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences" Introduction to Intellectual Property "which is being offered from FY 2015. This course is a class by a teacher with practical experience that is to be held as a subject of "science and technology and society" classified as "science technology for sustainable planet". The instructor in charge is engaged in the business handling intellectual property as a patent attorney, and conducts classes taking advantage of actual knowledge and practical knowledge related to patent attorneys' work and examination by Japanese patent office. |

1. Guidance & Introduction to Intellectual property. 2. Understand the outline of the Intellectual property law (Patents,Utility models,Designs,Trademarks). 3. Patent law I : R&D, The outline of the Patent system. 4. Patent law II : Patent applications, Patent prosecution. 5. Understand the outline of the design system. 6. Understand the outline of the copy right. 7. Paris conventions & Patent Cooperation Treaty 8. Integrated study & midterm examination 9．Understand the brand's outline and understand the intellectual property use purpose. 10．Understand the outline of the trademark system. 11．Understand the outline of the regional group trademark system．Understand the outline of the geographical indications (GI) protection system． 12．Understand the international treaty on intellectual property in order to acquire intellectual property in a foreign country. 13．Understand The outline of Plant Variety Protection System. 14. Understand the use situation of various intellectual property in the agricultural field, understand the situation of conflict, understand the means to investigate intellectual property information. 15．Understand examples of utilization of intellectual property in the agricultural field. Consider issues of intellectual property in the agricultural field. In the field of agriculture, consider using multiple intellectual property. |

This course combines technology with aspects of law and business, which is a valuable experience for technical students. For students interested in research management and technology development, students interested in business, please recognize that intellectual property is fundamental knowledge of society like traffic rules. Although it is a field not familiar to the past, since it is posted on the homepage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Mining from the basic matter to the professional thing, please use it for preparation, review and deepen the interest. In addition, it will be featured in news such as overseas imitation of seeds and seeds, so if you access the news commentary, you will deepen your understanding of the actual issues.
