Course description
Basic concepts of the general veterinary public health are lectured. The lectures include the purpose of public health, the related fields of food hygiene, zoonosis, environmental hygiene, and animal welfare, public health statistics, and administrative structures on public health.
The lecturers have firsthand experiences on General veterinary public health and will describe actual examples on this subject.
Expected Learning
To understand the basic ideas for veterinary public health and to obtain the knowledge appliable to public health through approaches to solve relevant problems.

Course schedule
1. Basic concepts of Public health: the purpose and related laws of Public health
2. Statistics of human population: census and vital statistics, life table
3. Animal management and welfare: pets, animal care, abnormal behaviors, related laws
4. Infectious disease and its prevention: statistics of diseases, infection and development of diseases, sterilization and disinfection
5. Health administration (1): Structures of Health administration (National and local governments), laws related to local public health
6. Health administration (2): laws related to infectious diseases and food safety
7. Summary
Prerequisites
In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University.

Assessment/Grading
Students only who attend at least two thirds of lecture can take the examination. Two tardies are counted as one absence of lecture. Students whose marks are no less than 60 points will pass the exam.
