Course description |
The purpose of this practice is to learn basic skills for examining reproductive status of domestic animals and to understand the examination, therapy, prevention methods for reproductive and obstetric disorders. Students learn several techniques including artificial insemination, embryo collection and dystocia management and practice clinical examination, data analysis and evaluation methods of dairy herds in our university and other commercial dairy farms. Lecturers of this practice have the experiences on reproductive management and treatment of domestic animals. They provide knowledge and techniques of theriogenology, which is necessary for clinical practice. |
Expected Learning |

1. Guidance for practice and lecture of parturition in cows 2. Artificial insemination of cows 3. Reproductive examination in postpartum cows, pregnancy diagnosis 4. Guidance and preparation for field reproductive examination 5. Field reproductive examination at Isonuma Milk Farm 6. Field reproductive examination at Isonuma Milk Farm 7. Data analysis of field reproductive examination 8. Presentation and discussion of the results of field reproductive examination 9. Data evaluation of dairy herds and reproductive management 10. Embryo collection, embryo transfer, epidural anesthesia,and synchronization of estrus 11. Introduction of diagnostic and therapeutic apparatus 12. Mastitis diagnosis 13. Dystocia management 14. Observation of parturition (the schedule depends on the expected date of parturition of cows) 15. Management, treatment, and prevention of reproductive disorders (Examination) |
Prerequisites |
This lecture is a compulsory subject and is one of the specialized subjects. Students need to preview and review for an amount of time as indicated in the student guidelines of TUAT, in addition to the attendance of lecture (45 hours). |
