Course description |
[Course objective] In this course, Biochemistry I, the students learn the structures, chemical and physical properties and interactions of biomolecules such as amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and their complexes. [Course synopsis] Biochemistry is the investigation of the molecular basis of life. The students should understand the chemical and physical properties of biological molecules influence their function as the biochemical baseline knowledge. |
Expected Learning |
- Understanding the structures and functions of essential molecules that are composed of bioorganisms - Understanding the physiological roles of biomolecules Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: (B) Please refer to the curriculum map at the following URL: https://www.tuat.ac.jp/campuslife_career/campuslife/policy/. |
Course schedule |
Structure and function of biomolecules (Atsushi Nishikawa) 1) Introduction - the major objective of biochemistry 2) Amino acid and protein - the structures, properties and analytical methods of amino acids 3) Amino acid and protein - the structures, properties and analytical methods of proteins 4) Amino acid and protein - the post-translational modifications and localizations of proteins 5) Enzyme - properties of enzymes 6) Enzyme - enzyme kinetics 7) Carbohydrate - the structures, properties and analytical methods of carbohydrates 8) Carbohydrate - the structures and functions of polysaccharides 9) Biological polymer - the structures and functions of biological molecules 10) Review / examination Glycolysis and related metabolic pathways (Takashi Tonozuka) 11) Metabolism overview and bioenergetics 12) Glycolysis 13) Pentose phosphate pathway 14) Gluconeogenesis 15) Regulation of glycolysis and related pathways / examination |
