Course description

〔Japanese History，This coursee will be discussed in Japanese〕 This course is designed as an humanities and social sciences course in the Global Liberal Arts Studies.The purpose of this course is to consider the characteristics and the establishing process of the Japanese medieval society during the Heian period(The late 8th century〜12th century）.Students will learn historical thinking from various angles including the following points. 1.The local society and local governance in the turning point 2.The change of economic distribution in the Heian period 3.The change of religious power

Expected Learning

(1)To learn historical thought from various viewpoints through history of the Heian period (2)To understand the process how the Japanese ancient times turn into the medieval times (3)To understand that history is easily distorted by future generations. Prerequisites

This course carries 2 credits.In addition to 30hours you spend in the class and 1hour in writing a paper, you are recommended to prepare for, and review,the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class,using handouts, the reference books and history encyclopedias.

Assessment/Grading

Grades are given based 90% on final examination scores and 10% on papers which the students should submit answering the lecturer’s questions and petting students's questions to the lecturer in every class.
