Course description |
The course is a continuation of German Ⅰ. You will learn the laws of grammar, read and speak easy sentences, translate them into Japanese and write brief responses in German. After passing the final exam you are entitled to obtain a credit. Native speakers of German are not permitted to register for this course. This course is offered as the second part of the two-part German language course of the Global Language and Cultural Studies. |
Expected Learning |
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to: 1. communicate at an elementary level 2. read complex sentences in every tense with the aid of a dictionary 3. have some concrete images of German culture Competency Development: Intercultural Understanding, Global Awareness, Communication skills, Reading Comprehension skills |
Course schedule |
Week1: Course guidance. The past tense. Week2: The present perfect and the past perfect. Week3: The future tense and the future perfekt. Week4: Separable verbs and inseparable verbs. Week5: Reflexive verbs and impersonal verbs. Week6: Declension of adjectives. Week7: Comparison of adjectives and adverbs. Week8: The zu-infinitive and the participle. Week9: Subordinate conjunctions and complex sentences. Week10: The passive voice. Week11: Relative pronouns. Week12: Relative adverbs. Demonstrative pronouns. Week13: The subjunctive mood 1. Week14: The subjunctive mood 2. Week15: Summary Final exam. |
Prerequisites |
This course carries 1 credits. Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes in preparing for each class, and another 45 minutes in completing assignments and revising the class. |

Dictionaries and other reading materials are suggested in the first class. |
Assessment/Grading |
The roll will be called every week. You must not absent yourself more than 4 times. The final grade will be assessed by the following criteria: (i) Class participation and results of small tests ― 30% (ii) Result of the final examination ― 70% |
