| Course description |
| The goal of this course is to understand fundamental theory and methods of international cooperation. Humans have always inhabited two worlds. One is the natural world that preceded us and of which we are a part. The other is the world of social institutions and artifacts that we create for ourselves using science and Technology, and political organization. Both worlds are essential to our lives, but integrating them successfully causes enduring tensions. In this course, we introduce relationships between natural world and environmental science and technology. This course is offered in English as one of the Multidisciplinary Courses of the Global Integrated Studies. |

The characteristic of natural environments on the earth and the knowledge about the historic background, are very important for recognizing the environmental problems. In this course, we introduce the pollution, and how to restoration. Especially, we will discuss the international technical cooperation using the science and technology of Japan. In the group presentation, student confirms directionality of the activity by oneself. 1. Orientation 2. The cause of general water pollution 3. Red tide 4. Pollution in Japan 5. Cause of Minamata disease 6. Counterplan of pollution in Japan 7. Grass-roots movement for pollution 8. Technical Cooperation 9. Grass-root project in TUAT 10. Project of self-sustaining of women in Uzbekistan 11. Group discussion (What kind of Technical Cooperation is important?) 12. Group discussion (How to relate with SGDs?) 13. Group discussion (How to present?) 14. Group Presentation 15. Discussion of Group presentation ** The above schedule may change depending on the progress. |

2 credits The presentations in English are necessary in this course. In addition to 30 hours you spend in the class, you are recommended to prepare for and review the classes, using the handouts provided and spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to understand the mechanisms of International Cooperation of Science and Technology. |
