Course description
Spectroscopy is the method to characterize chemical compounds and investigate material properties through the interactions between the material and electromagnetic waves. This lecture will give an explanation of the principles on various spectroscopies from the view point of physical chemistry, and show some practical examples for the spectra.
Expected Learning
1. Understanding on background and principle of spectroscopies.
2. Acquiring on the ability to judge the structure and properties of chemical materials from the spectra.

Week2 Intensity of spectrum, Beer-Lambert law, rotational spectroscopy
Week3 Microwave spectroscopy, rotational constant, moment of inertia
Week4 Rotationally Raman spectrum, infrared spectroscopy
Week5 Vibrational Raman spectrum, symmetric stretch, antisymmetric stretch
Week6 Ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, Franck-Condon principle
