Course description
"Chemical kinetics" provides the method how the rates of reactions can be expressed and interpreted. The study of reaction rates allows for understanding of reactions involving a sequence of several elementary steps. Furthermore, the transport properties of substance are also lectured.
Expected Learning
Integrated rate raws can be derived from differential equations known as rate raws.
Rate raws can be expressed from proposed mechanisms, namely series of elementary steps.
Techniques for discussing the motion of molecules can be used to various examples.
Course schedule
1. The definition of rate; rate laws, rate constants, and reaction order
2. The determination of the rate law
3. Integrated rate raws; first-order and second-order reactions
4. Reactions approaching equilibrium
5. The Arrhenius equation and activation energy
6. Consecutive elementary reaction
